Stages in my writing

There are really a lot of stages in my writing I think. The reason I think this is, because I tend to have a lot of trouble starting it out. I have gotten a little bit better as I have mentioned in my other blogs but I just find myself having to do many revisions. The first of those would be the very first draft, which has lots of my main points but they are usually not worded or written in the right order that they need to be in. This usually is a fast draft just because I want to see how much I can get out of my material or what is on my mind when I write that one. Next step would be after the peer response or endorsement groups we will have this semester. This is where it could be good or bad feedback. Usually last semester I wasn’t able to do a whole lot during this step except maybe correct some of the grammar. So hopefully these endorsement groups are going to be good. Another step in my writing would be the conference with Stephanie this is where I get a lot of input. I usually at this point like to do a lot of revising such as put my stuff in the right order, maybe take out some stuff or even rewrite the whole thing as I mentioned in an earlier blog. After this step I started to reread really thoroughly and try to pick out anything that should not be in there. So, I don’t know about other people but I have learned to make many drafts instead of just having two like in highschool.

Small Towns

Ok this weeks blog I’m going to talk about something that I hope some people will comment on and be interested to find out more. Here it goes my questions is why are people from small towns such as my hometown of Metamora so nice then when you get to the city not even a big city people are a lot more to themselves. I’m not trying to dis anyone or say they are mean but they truly are less interested in other people if that makes sense I’m just carious. For example, when I’m driving through the back roads and sometimes in town even if I know them or not I wave and they wave back. I mean that’s just what happens. Then when you get to the city, you wave at someone and they just look at you funny. Another, example would be when you are driving you are usually don’t go that fast in a small town even though you have a lot of space to go fast we don’t. Then in the city such as like chi town or New York where there is little space to go fast people fly. I just don’t get it why is there that big of a difference. Then one last example I would like to put out there would be why is there a lot less crime in small towns. I know there is some but like I always leave my car unlocked at home and no one has ever broke into it and I leave my ipod and everything in it. I know this may sound like a dumb idea to people but really nothing ever happens. When I dated this girl from Bloomington she always took my ipod out and everything and made me lock the doors because she says people will steal them. So, what do you think?

The New and Improved physical part of writing!

There are many different parts of writing. The one I will talk about this week will be about my physical part of the writing process. Typically in the past I would stay up to late hours of the morning and trying to get things done last minute. That is when I thought that my best ideas came out. I was completely wrong with that statement. Last semester I did my first couple of papers last minute and they turned out all right. But, if you look at my grades on my papers towards the end of the semester they were a lot better. This is because these papers were done before midnight and I was able to focus a lot better instead of focusing on when I was going to be able to go to sleep. Also, I was totally against having music on while I type before. Now, I have found that if I listen to some calm country music it helps me get through the paper as well as not make the whole typing process boring. Next, I have been able to type wherever now people don’t bother me as much as they used too. Sometimes I even may ask someone for ideas or how to word something so that has really help too. I like to type everything I never really hand write anything anymore it just takes to much time, hurts my hand, you can’t back space and lastly you don’t have what we call “SPELL CHECK”. So with that all said the whole physical part of writing for me has basically changed from the beginning of the semester in the fall till now. As well as help me become a better writer.

Writing Moments In College

There have been many writhing moments in my academic career up through college that has influenced my writing. But, I want to talk about some recent experiences that have happen to me. First one would be last semester it was towards the end of the semester I think it was my last paper. So, I wanted to show Stephanie how far I had come. So, I wrote the first draft and as usual it was a complete failure so it kind of got me down. When I got home to revise it I looked at it and I decided that I was going to rewrite the whole thing because there was so much wrong with it. Many people don’t think of that because they do not want to take the time of rewriting the whole thing. The reason it was such a help to me was because I knew what she didn’t want and I was able to take that and make something completely new and improved. Now many may think that is just crazy and they don’t want to try it. But, if your draft was as bad as mine you will probably have to work really hard on figuring out what to do and rearrange things, in all that time you will spend you could just type a whole new paper like I did. That was one experience that helped me become a better writer. Now, I will talk about one more that has helped me that would be my blog. Do to these blogs I have been able to realize what kind of writer I am as well as my interests. It has showed me some stuff I need to work on and what has helped me. For example, I learned that I needed to work on sensory detail by explaining how people react to my papers. Therefore, I encourage people to take their blogs seriously so they maybe also will be able to figure out what works best for them and what doesn’t work.
