The topic I would like to talk about this week would be Global Warming and what it is doing to our earth right now. Also, a few ways we can do to help stop it. The reason I want to talk about this is because we need to do something about it otherwise there will be major changes to the earth’s surface and the way we live. Global warming is happening because us humans are putting to much carbon dioxide into the air much faster than our plants and ocean can absorb it. As well as other pollutants such as methane and nitrous oxide. What do I mean by changes? If it continues to get hotter here on earth that will cause the glaciers to melt which will then make the oceans to rise. Now, think of the cities and people that live on the coasts there are millions and they will be forced to move because their homes and cities will be underwater. According to this article in National Geographic there is going to be more droughts, hurricanes, and many wildfires all over the world. We will also have more deserts in some places do to all the heat, which will cause a shortage of food and water. Those are just a few of the things that may happen in the future if we don’t change the way we live. Now, I know there are new cars coming out that run on battery and run on alternative fuel. But, they are just so darn expensive and really no one wants to get them because of that. They say it will be cheaper in the long run but still it’s the initial cost that scares them away especially in this economy. So, until they are cheaper you can car pool which will help because there will be less cars on the road. Another, fairly cheap way to save energy and save the environment is to use energy efficient light bulbs in your home. They use 60% less energy then regular ones. Those are just a couple of ways to help out a little bit. I hope that I have showed you if we do not do anything, bad things will happen that we do not like or people after us will not like as well.
